Detention of World March of Women activists in Turkey

Statement of the World March of Women

After the detention of the Co-Mayors of Diyarbakir Metropolitan Municipality, Ms. Gültan Kışanak and Mr. Fırat Anli, both members of the People’s Democrat Party, on the 25th October 2016 in the surrounding buildings of the municipality accused of having terrorist links,   today the police attacked the demonstrators protesting over these unlawful and anti-democratic arrests against democratically elected people by using tear gas and water cannons against the crowd.

As a result of this brutal police attack in front of the Diyarbakir Municipality, many women are also detained. Among them was Sultan Safak, Kurdish activist and a member of the European Secretariat of the World March of Women.

We call all for international solidarity to raise our voices and take urgent action against this illegal detentions and demanding the immediate release of our sister and all the women arrested in the protest.

We will keep marching until all women are free!
