The Workers’ Party (PT) leader at the senate, Gleisi Hoffman (PT-PR) was elected for the PT presidency with a 69% of the delegates votes in the 6th National Congress of the PT, which homaged the former first lady Marisa Leticia Lula da Silva. Senator Lindbergh Farias (RJ) was voted by a 31% of the delegates.

Gleisi -the first woman elected for office since- will preside the party for the next two years. “We are showing to Brazil that the PT has diversity, that we have real teeth to face everything that is out there and to propose one thing for Brazil”, she affirmed after the victory.

Down below you can see some quotes which reveal the political positioning of the new president of the PT:

“We are going to fight for direct elections right now, we want to advance the elections of 2018. We can wait but the people can not, we are seeing how everything is falling apart.”

“The government is manipulating numbers to justify a reform that will do wrong on people and on Brazil.”

On the Law Project 6442/2016 which modifies the regulation of rural work.

When on past May, without any debate, the report on the labour reform was considered read in the Senate’s Commission.

“You are not placing the workers’ rights under your ruling, no. We have got to have public spirit and anticipate the 2018 elections”
