Statement of 21 Independent Iranian Women’s Organizations

Proposed by Sissy Vovou

Collective Action of Independent Iranian Women Organization joins humanitarian and human rights institutions, peace lovers, women’s rights activists and anti-war and anti-militarist feminists in condemning the October 7 Hamas attacks, calling for an immediate ceasefire in the occupied Gaza Strip by the Israeli government, ending the murder of civilians, women, and children, guaranteeing access to urgent and persistent aid for the people of Gaza, securing the immediate release of hostages, of prisoners in Israel, and ending this unprecedented human catastrophe.

For decades, Gaza has been recognized as the largest open-air prison in the world. Now it has turned into a death camp. The Israeli army has continued its intense bombing of Gaza and has deprived Palestinians there of vital resources such as water, food, electricity, fuel, and urgent and persistent medical assistance. According to Amnesty International, “We have been witnessing terror in unimaginable proportions in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories. Over

2 million in Gaza are struggling to survive in the midst of a catastrophic humanitarian crisis, and the extent of civilian casualties has been unprecedented.” Over 10,000 including 3400 children have been killed in Gaza and at least 1200 killed in Israel and thousands injured. The large scale of collective punishment of Gaza’s inhabitants by the Israeli army constitutes genocide and a violation of international laws. The bombing of hospitals and schools is also considered a war crimes.

The Joint Action of Independent Iranian Women’s Organizations, condemns military invasion, oppression, forced displacement of populations, and the violation of human rights to which the Palestinians have been subjected for decades. We express our solidarity with the people of Palestine and Israel and especially their women’s organizations which have for decades made efforts toward the aim of a lasting peace.

We, the Collective Action of Independent Iranian Women’s Organizations, condemn the policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran and other countries of the region which for years have strengthened and armed reactionary forces such as Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the Hezbollah of Lebanon. We also condemn the support that the U.S. and European governments give to the Israeli government. It is our hope that the progressive forces of the people of Palestine and Israel, with the active participation of women from both sides, will raise the banner of lasting peace to live side by side in peace and tranquility. Such a goal can only be realized through confronting right-wing forces and the agents of apartheid on the one hand and the Islamic fundamentalists on the other.
