WE MISS YOU, AWA OUEDRAOGO!

The World March of Women regrets the passing of Awa Ouédraogo on July 29, 2021. She was a progressive activist from Burkina Faso, founding member of the WMW and twice representative of the Africa region on the International Committee of the movement.

Awa among the very first African women on the front lines of the struggle for the advancement of women around the world. In our international solidarity movement, she has played an important role in helping to understand cultural diversity, regional values, defence of local knowledges, being a progressive feminist, etc.

Does it sound difficult? Well, for her it wasn’t, she was a teacher and she had amazing didactics! She will always be remembered with a contagious smile, her glasses and hats that have always characterized her.

We will always be on the march comrade Awa!
